Ab Initio’s simple graphical development tools allow you to build data processing applications quickly, without specialized knowledge.
Ab Initio makes it easy to design, implement, and test large complex applications. Ab Initio enables architects and developers to build applications graphically — with no traditional coding. Because businesspeople can easily understand these applications’ intuitive diagrams, the applications are built far faster with fewer people and require far less maintenance than traditional technologies.
When medical reimbursement codes change, how do you rapidly update the information in thousands of databases?
Medical and psychological professionals include diagnostic codes on bills before submitting them to insurance companies. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) establishes and periodically revises these codes. Although similar, the codes are not identical from version to version.
A major health insurance company was grappling with the change from ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes. They had thousands of databases filled with fields containing ICD-9 codes; even worse, some of their software had the codes written into the programs.
Having an incorrect code or a code mismatch can lead to denial of services, failure to reimburse doctors or patients within legally mandated deadlines, incorrect payments, and other potentially expensive or life-threatening problems. Converting to ICD-10 by hand was logistically impossible. What did the company do?
They called Ab Initio.
Ab Initio used its massively scalable processing capabilities to rapidly scan the insurance company’s databases and software — through all the catalogs, tables, files, and representations of all the software. It meant developing pattern-matching algorithms that could identify the old ICD-9 codes, keeping the number that had to be checked by hand to a manageable minimum.
Ab Initio built and tested the mapping software. At that point, the health insurance company could run it without help. They used it to update their entire enterprise, and they are still using it to update their system with new changes and additions to the diagnostic codes.
Ab Initio: making healthcare work smoothly for doctors and patients.
